First-of-its-kind register of domestic abuse risk assessors gets go-ahead to apply for PSA accreditation

09 Jun 2026

The sa国际传媒官网网页入口 (PSA) has published a report confirming that DVACT-PAI鈥檚 register of expert domestic abuse risk assessors has passed an initial assessment for the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Registers programme, paving the way for a full application.

This first stage, known as Standard One, assesses whether there is a clear public interest in a register being considered for PSA accreditation.

DVACT-PAI holds the UK鈥檚 only register of expert domestic abuse risk assessors and is the first register of its kind to complete this initial assessment. The PSA will now continue to work with DVACT-PAI as it prepares its application for full accreditation.

Domestic abuse risk assessments can play a vital role in decisions affecting the safety and wellbeing of adults and children. These assessments require specialist knowledge, experience and judgement, particularly in complex cases involving coercive and controlling behaviour.

The publication of the PSA report comes at a time of increased focus on the role of experts in family court proceedings involving children. In a recent debate on domestic abuse and safeguarding in the family justice system, the Government confirmed planned changes which, once implemented, will require experts giving evidence in children鈥檚 proceedings to be regulated by a UK statutory body, by an approved regulator under the Legal Services Act 2007, or to be on a register accredited by the PSA, subject to limited exceptions.

Alan Clamp, Chief Executive of the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 said:

鈥淒omestic abuse risk assessment is complex and sensitive work which can have a significant impact on the safety and wellbeing of adults and children. We are pleased that DVACT-PAI has met Standard One, which is an important first step in the accreditation process.

鈥淭his decision recognises the essential contribution of expert domestic abuse risk assessors in the UK and the importance of strong professional standards to underpin their work. We look forward to working closely with DVACT-PAI as they prepare their full application.鈥

Co-Founder and Clinical Manager of DVACT-PAI Tracey Boylan said:

鈥淢eeting this standard is a testament to our ongoing commitment to robust, high-quality risk assessment. We are dedicated to ensuring that our registrants meet high professional standards, and this milestone reinforces our commitment to transparency, safety, and excellence in domestic abuse risk assessment.鈥
